Thompson Pharmacy began in 1966 when William D. Thompson, Jr. purchased Meek Drug Store located in the Juniata section of Altoona. Over the years many products have been added and the number of services have grown to meet the changing needs of their customers. Thompson Pharmacy also grew into new locations; first in downtown Altoona, then the Broad Ave Thompson Pharmacy. In 1999 the Chestnut Ave store was opened to great fanfare with even more conveniences that included a full line of health and beauty aids and "The Gift Gallery", an extensive selection of gifts. And in 2008 Thompson Pharmacy opened their first store in Hollidaysburg.

William D. Thompson III joined his father at Thompson Pharmacy in 1988. "Bill", III is currently president while Sr. is chairman of the board. Even as they grow in response to customer needs, the one thing that won't change is their commitment to provide every customer with the highest level of service. As one of the last independent pharmacies remaining in the area, the employees at Thompson Pharmacy pride themselves on serving their community inside and outside of the store. Bringing simple convenience and quality service to people's lives is what Thompson Pharmacy is all about.

Over the years, Thompson Pharmacy has become an important thread in the fabric of the community. They provide many services that make accomplishing life's everyday tasks much easier. The in-store Post Office, dry cleaning, bill paying, The Kids Zone and Digital Photo Center are all designed to allow people to take care of multiple errands quickly and easily.
