In 1966, William D, Thompson, Jr. purchased Meek Drug Store, located in the Juniata section of Altoona and thus began the independent pharmacy known as Thompson Pharmacy. Since then, Mr. Thompson has expanded his business from a small 1000 sq. ft. pharmacy (with a soda fountain) to a huge 14,000 sq. ft., full-range pharmacy, with an extensive gift section and a full line of health and beauty aids.

In 1988, William D. Thompson, III joined his father in the business and is currently vice-president of the company. He is responsible for the daily operations of all three pharmacies.

Bill Sr. is a 1964 graduate of University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy. Bill III is a 1988 graduate of University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy.

As one of the last independent pharmacies left in the area, Thompson Pharmacy continually strives to provide their customers with the best service possible. Everything from verbal consultations to free blood pressure screening, Thompson Pharmacy is willing to go the extra mile to educate customers on how to get better and stay healthy.

The Thompsons, together with their employees, have Spent the last 35 years serving their community with compassion and dedication.
