Flu

There are three types of viruses that cause influenza; types A, B or C. Often confused with the common cold, the flu is an acute infection of the airway tract of the nose and throat that can also spread into the lungs. Among the groups that are most susceptible for developing the flu, are children.

Influenza is highly contagious and spreads when someone comes in direct contact with an infected person's secretions. This includes inhaling the virus in fluids coughed up or sneezed by an infected individual, kissing and sharing items such as eating utensils, etc.

The flu season typically begins in late fall and early winter, peaking between November and March. Symptoms include but are not limited to high-grade fever, headaches, chills, cough and more.

Thompson Pharmacy carries many different sizes of hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes as well as masks and disinfecting sprays to protect you and your child from viruses in the environment. We also offer flu vaccines at our Immunization Clinics located at the Thompson Pharmacy in Juniata and Hollidaysburg.
